A.C. Fitzpatrick is a Toronto-based writer and editor. She previously wrote the Scribbles column at the National Post, was the picture books reviewer for The Globe and Mail, and was a bookslinger at Mabel’s Fables Children’s Bookstore. She has also contributed to Rookie Magazine, The Walrus, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, and The New York Times Magazine. She loves travelling, learning languages, and old movies, and her favorite place in the world is the Lillian H. Smith branch of the Toronto Public Library.
The inspiration for Margot and the Moon Landing (2020) came from the author’s own tendencies to obsess over her hobbies and interests, and her desire to share those interests with everyone she meets, even today. Though as adults it’s much easier to find communities based on shared passions, the author wanted to tap into how lonely it can be as a kid to feel like you don’t have the freedom or outlet to explore the things you love, or to feel like you’re not being heard. She hopes Margot gives readers permission to keep exploring their own interests (whether it’s the moon landing or something else) and to create spaces of their own.
